If you look up in the dictionary, you will find several entries listed in alphabetical order explaining the different meanings of this word. The first one is related to March as the third month of the year in the Gregorian calendar. It is 31 days long and it is the beginning of spring, which runs from March to June in the Northern Hemisphere and from September to November in the Southern Hemisphere. It is considered a logical point for the start of the year celebrated in many cultures and religions as well as the beginning of the military campaign season. It was named in Ancient Rome as Martius after Mars, the Roman God of War. That's where its second meaning comes from, a music genre for marching called March. It also refers to 'Marching Bands' performing musical marches. So, the third meaning is related to the walking of military troops, best known as 'Marching'. The fourth meaning of this word is referred to demonstrations, public events in which a large amount of people walk through a public place to express their support for something, or their disapproval of something.
